May 20, 2013, 7:39 p.m. ET Latest Pipeline Spill Is Mostly Contained Crews worked to clean up some 2,500 barrels of crude that spilled over the weekend at an oil-storage terminal in Cushing, Okla., the third-biggest crude spill seen in the U.S. this year. The Enbridge spill took place at a crude-gathering site where crews are ready to handle emergencies. It follows the rupture in March of Exxon Mobil Corp.'s XOM +0.82% Pegasus pipeline, which spilled an estimated 5,000 barrels of heavy Canadian crude into a Mayflower, Ark., neighborhood. Earlier that month, more than 5,000 barrels of oil leaked from a Lion Oil Trading & Transportation Inc. storage tank in Magnolia, Ark., with some flowing into a bayou. Also in March, a Chevron Corp. CVX +1.09% pipeline leaked an estimated 600 barrels of diesel near a freshwater lake in Utah's Willard Bay State Park. And an inactive Marathon Petroleum Corp. MPC +2.27% pipeline leaked about 500 barrels of diesel in Indianapolis earlier this month. online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323463704578495431880326740.html

Ecuador oil spill pollutes Amazon tributary Associated Press – 16 hrs ago The company said it did not know how much of the 420,000 gallons (1.6 million liters) of crude oil that spilled had reached the Quijos river, a waterway popular with whitewater rafting enthusiasts. But enough flowed from the Quijos into the Coca and Napo rivers downstream that the regional capital of Coca had to shut down its drinking water system and Ecuador's government alerted Peru and Brazil, which are along the course of the Napo as it heads toward the Amazon. In Coca, an urban area of about 80,000 people at the confluence of the Coca and Napo rivers, Mayor Ana Rivas told the Sonorama radio station that the accident "has left us without water because the river we take potable water from is contaminated. The people are indignant because there is no water to drink." news.yahoo.com/ecuador-oil-spill-pollutes-amazon-tributary-161353176.html

Enbridge shuts oil sands pipelines after synthetic crude spill CALGARY, Alberta, June 23 | Sun Jun 23, 2013 3:01am EDT (Reuters) - Enbridge Inc, Canada's largest pipeline company, said on Saturday that 750 barrels of synthetic oil had spilled from a pipeline serving CNOOC Ltd's Long Lake oil sands project. Enbridge said it was still investigating the cause of the spill early on Saturday near its Cheecham terminal, about 70 km (43 miles) southeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta. The company said that it had also shut down two major oil pipelines serving Canada's oil sands region as a precaution. Shipment on the 345,000 barrels per day Athabasca pipeline and the 350,000 bpd Waupisoo line have been suspended while the company investigates the cause of the Line 37 spill. It gave no estimate for when the lines would re-open. www.reuters.com/article/2013/06/23/enbridge-pipeline-spill-idUSL2N0EZ00H20130623

Mayflower: 4 months after the spill 7:07 PM, Jul 29, 2013 MAYFLOWER, Ark. (KTHV) -- Oil pouring from the Pegasus Pipeline four months ago, still creates frustration for Mayflower residents. Some residents THV spoke with on Monday said they are not only frustrated and angry at ExxonMobil, but sick. THV attempted to contact Exxon by phone Monday to explain the claims made by residents. Instead the company replied via email, stating they have nothing new to provide, and they did not know about the meeting. Organizers of Monday's meeting said they have invited ExxonMobil to every gathering, but the company refuses to attend. www.thv11.com/news/article/273827/2/Mayflower-4-months-after-the-spill

CNRL Will Drain Oil Spill Lake, But Questions Keep Rising Posted: 09/26/2013 12:15 pm That lake is the scene of one of four underground blow-outs at a Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (CNRL) Primrose tar sands project that has been pouring tar sands bitumen into the environment for months now... Already, more than 1.5 million liters of tar sands bitumen has been spilled and the number climbs higher every day.
