Pakistan Floods Destroy Bridges - World Roundup Aug. 13, 2010 Rains Pound Pakistan and China, But Downpours Are Good News in Moscow PAKISTAN FLOODING Pakistan's army has deployed about 60,000 troops for rescue and relief operations out of a force of about 550,000 soldiers. Doctors say that malaria, diarrhea and gastroenteritis are growing threats. More than 1,600 people are estimated to have been killed in the disaster, and out of 14 million severely affected, as many as 6 million will require longer term assistance. The scale of the devastation is difficult to comprehend: All 41 bridges in Upper Dir district and more than 60 bridges in Swat district have been destroyed, and seven major landslides are blocking access by road to flood-stricken areas of Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Road access to some areas in the north-west has only just been restored, while some areas of the north-east remain completely inaccessible. abcnews.go.com/International/Books/pakistan-floods-wipe-bridges-roads-world-news-roundup/story?id=11393237

Independence Day of Pakistan - It is not like it used to be Karâchi : Pakistan | Aug 14, 2010 Today, the 14th of August, is the independence day of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. However, the country is going through the most extreme flood of the century. It is 63rd birthday of Pakistan and Pakistanis are working for the relief of flood victims rather than celebrating Independence Day. The flood has affected many lives in Pakistan. There are more than thousand lives lost, thousands are missing and millions are displaced from their homes. The water is everywhere, but there is no single drop of drinkable water or a date to breakfast. August 14, 2010, has arrived in the month of Ramadan, which is the holiest Islamic month in the Muslim lunar calendar. The day when Pakistan appeared on the map of the world, August 14, 1947, there was Ramadan as well. The night when Pakistan came into being was the night of Ramadan 27, one of the holiest nights in Islamic faith. For Muslims of Indo-Pak subcontinent, the independence of Pakistan from British rule was a great blessing from Almighty. www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/6518647-independence-day-of-pakistan-it-is-not-like-it-used-to-be

Mohenjo-Daro, Pakistan’s Mysterious Ancient Civilization Biot Report #576: December 09, 2008 South Asia’s ancient Indus Valley civilization, which lasted from 2600 to 1900 BC, is one of the four earliest urban Old World civilizations. Unlike Mesopotamia, Egypt, and China’s Yellow River civilization, however, the Indus Valley civilization remains mysterious because linguists have not yet deciphered the 400 symbols of the Indus script that cover seals, amulets and pottery vessels found in the ruins of Indus Valley civilization cities, such as Harappa (Punjab province, Pakistan) and Mohenjo-Daro (Sindh province, Pakistan). www.semp.us/publications/biot_reader.php?BiotID=576
