In 2011, when gas prices were about $1/litre in Alberta: Brent crude oil averages over $100 per barrel in 2011. In 2015, when gas prices were about $1/litre in Alberta: Oil prices surged above $50 a barrel. Even with Shell's pie "Gasoline prices go up and down over time and vary from place to place, so the price breakdown for a litre of gasoline also varies. 40 - 55 per cent is crude oil costs (the raw material for making gasoline and diesel fuel) 25 - 35 per cent is federal, provincial and municipal taxes and the GST 10 - 25 per cent is the refiner's margin (the difference between what it costs to buy crude oil and the price refined gasoline sells for in the wholesale market which, in turn, is influenced by supply and demand) 4 - 6 per cent is the marketing (or retail) margin that covers retail stations’ expenses and profits." www.shell.ca/en/products-services/shell-for-drivers/pricing/fuel-pricing.htmlThere are sales taxes (5% GST + prov + municipal) on a fixed tax (10 cents/litre): www.nrcan.gc.ca/energy/fuel-prices/4939

Friends, it will be a budgeting miracle and O&G will do well too. It's not collusion. Please send $10 to the Conservative Party.

August 21, 2015. Here’s why gas prices are climbing in Canada while oil plummets <snips> - Spokespeople for Imperial Oil and Suncor directed questions about industry pricing practices to Canadian Fuels Association, an industry group. Shell did not respond to a request for comment. Comment from the industry group wasn’t immediately available. - A criminal case is currently before the courts that alleges Irving Oil and its Quebec manager “fixed” retail prices at stations in Victoriaville, Thetford Mines and Sherbrooke. - The average price for a litre of gas this week was just shy of $1.19, according to Natural Resources Canada. That’s roughly what the average price was last October. Back then, a barrel of oil was selling for around $85 (U.S.). On Friday, West Texas Intermediate slipped below $40/barrel for the first time since 2009. “We’re paying [gas] prices similar to when oil was $100,” said Bruce Cran, president of the Consumers’ Association of Canada. - Nevertheless, the consumer association is meeting with bureau officials in early November where the issue is on the agenda. globalnews.ca/news/2178192/heres-why-gas-prices-are-climbing-in-canada-while-oil-plummets/
