The video was released by the website Global Post, which obtained the footage from rebel fighters. 14 September 2011 A sends: Premier Glasgow libel lawyers Bannatyne Kirkwood France are issuing the following little missive to any site hosting a 7 September 2011 article by Kevin Williamson of BelaCaledonia:.. A few days ago Bella Caledonia posted a video of a television documentary nvestigation carried out by a Scottish private eye, George Thomson, which was first screened on Al Jazeera in June this year. As we said at the time it was investigative journalism of the highest order. Thomson’s investigation has a straightforward logic to it. He identifies the only three pieces of evidence that were used to link Al Megrahi to the Lockerbie bombing – a single eyewitness and a tiny fragment of an explosive device embedded in a piece of shirt – and then forensically proves: Policing Lockerbie, A Bella Caledonia Special Investigation | webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:-mxhEgV5PuUJ:b... 7 of 16 9/14/2011 9:55 AM 1) that the evidence given by the only witness to identify Al Megrahi, Tony Gauci, was contradictory, disreputable, and completely unreliable; and that he was subjected to police pressure, coaching, gifts, and (following the trial) a payment of $2m by the US Government. cryptome.org/0005/cia-golfer.pdf

Al Qaeda Plants Its Flag in Libya 1 month ago It was here at the courthouse in Benghazi where the first spark of the Libyan revolution ignited. It’s the symbolic seat of the revolution; post-Gaddafi Libya’s equivalent of Egypt’s Tahrir Square. And it was here, in the tumultuous months of civil war, that the ragtag rebel forces established their provisional government and primitive, yet effective, media center from which to tell foreign journalists about their “fight for freedom.” But according to multiple eyewitnesses—myself included—one can now see both the Libyan rebel flag and the flag of al Qaeda fluttering atop Benghazi’s courthouse. www.vice.com/read/al-qaeda-plants-its-flag-in-libya

Gadhafi Mexico plot riles SNC-Lavalin, insiders sayLast Updated: Feb 9, 2012 6:45 AM ET Insiders at Canadian engineering firm SNC-Lavalin say the company is in turmoil over its involvement with Cyndy Vanier, a hired consultant now facing serious charges in Mexico. A number of employees have come forward to CBC News alleging Vanier has become a victim of ‘rogue’ officers within their own company who arranged secretive meetings with Vanier in Mexico. The insiders spoke to CBC News on condition they not be named, for fear of reprisals within the company. Vanier was arrested in Mexico City on Nov. 10, 2011 and ***is in jail*** facing charges of leading a plot to smuggle members of Libya’s Gadhafi family into the country under assumed names involving forged passports. The next day, three other people were arrested. www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2012/02/08/cyndy-vanier-snc-lavalin-mexico-gadhafi.htmlSNC-Lavalin drops 2 executives tied to Gadhafi familyAn executive vice-president and a vice-president in finance ousted Last Updated: Feb 10, 2012 11:47 AM ET SNC-Lavalin announced that Riadh Ben Aïssa, executive vice-president of the firm’s construction arm, is no longer employed by the company, effective immediately. Stéphane Roy, who was a vice-president in finance, has also left the company. www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2012/02/10/snc-lavalin-cyndy-vanier-mexico-gadhafi.htmlJun 29, 2011. AECL sold for $15M to SNC-Lavalin. The sale price was $15 million, but the government will have opportunity to get royalties down the road because it's keeping intellectual property rights, Oliver said. However, the government will also provide SNC up to $75 million to complete development of a new reactor called Enhanced Candu 6. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2011/06/29/aecl-sale.html

nuclear watchdog fired (linda keen) - January 16, 2008 Federal Natural Resources Minister Gary Lunn defended his decision to fire the head of Canada's nuclear safety watchdog Wednesday, arguing she lost the government's confidence over the way she handled the shutdown of a medical isotope-producing nuclear reactor late last year. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2008/01/16/keen-firing.htmlOttawa to sell AECL to SNC-Lavalin Last updated Tuesday, Jun. 28, 2011 3:39PM EDT
The Harper government is set to announce the sale of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. to Montreal-based engineering firm SNC-Lavalin Group (SNC-T57.591.041.84%), a major gamble that Canada’s nuclear program can stand on its own amid growing global resistance to nuclear energy. www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/ottawa-to-sell-aecl-to-snc-lavalin/article2078110/

The Candu Reactor: An Optimal Platform for New Fuels www.pbnc2010.org.mx/pdfs/plennary/thursday/10.45_TheCANDUReactor.pdf
The sale of this unique technology "completes the Conservative government’s long-held plan to get out of the nuclear-energy business, which has been a drain on federal resources." according to "Ottawa to sell AECL to SNC-Lavalin" www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/ottawa-to-sell-aecl-to-snc-lavalin/article2078110/singlepage/#articlecontent
AECL's chief technology officer Anthony De Vuono said the NUE fuel cycle "opens up a sustainable development path leading to an overall extension of uranium fuel resources while, at the same time, reusing spent fuel from light water reactors." www.aecl.ca/NewsRoom/News/Press-2010/100323.htm
Citing the Candu reactor's low uranium consumption per terawatt-hour of electricity delivered to the grid, Zhao Hua, president of NPIC, said: "We are interested in working with AECL to jointly develop this important advantage including recycling recovered uranium from spent PWR fuel." archives.truenorthperspective.com/Apr_10/Apr_16/fuel_test.html
The window of opportunity is here. More than 200 reactors are planned to be built in the next 20 years and Canada is already in discussion with potential customers like China, Argentina, India, Jordan, Romania and other Eastern European countries who see the advantages of CANDU for their country. www.nuclearcounterfeit.com/?p=1755
A distinguished panel of experts appointed by the China National Nuclear Corporation concluded that CANDU is the ideal reactor design to further China’s nuclear power program using thorium as an alternative to uranium as a nuclear fuel source. The panel also noted the ability of CANDU reactors to reuse uranium recycled from light water reactor fuel from our competitor’s reactors and unanimously recommended that China consider building two new CANDU units to take advantage of CANDU’s unique capabilities in utilizing alternative fuels. These are solid competitive advantages for Canada in one of the fastest growing economies on the planet. www.nuclearcounterfeit.com/?p=1755

Ibn al-Shaykh al-Libi Has Died In A Libyan Prison 10.5.09 The Arabic media is ablaze with the news that Ibn al-Shaykh al-Libi, the emir of an Afghan training camp — whose claim that Saddam Hussein had been involved in training al-Qaeda operatives in the use of chemical and biological weapons was used to justify the invasion of Iraq — has died in a Libyan jail. So far, however, the only English language report is on the Algerian website Ennahar Online, which reported that the Libyan newspaper Oea stated that al-Libi (aka Ali Abdul Hamid al-Fakheri) “was found dead of suicide in his cell,” and noted that the newspaper had reported the story “without specifying the date or method of suicide.” This news resolves, in the grimmest way possible, questions that have long been asked about the whereabouts of Ibn al-Shaykh al-Libi, perhaps the most famous of “America’s Disappeared” — prisoners seized in the “War on Terror,” who were rendered not to Guantánamo but to secret prisons run by the CIA or to the custody of governments in third countries — often their own — where, it was presumed, they would never be seen or heard from again. The emir of the Khaldan training camp in Afghanistan, al-Libi was one of hundreds of prisoners seized by Pakistani forces in December 2001, crossing from Afghanistan into Pakistan. Most of these men ended up in Guantánamo after being handed over (or sold) to US forces by their Pakistani allies, but al-Libi was, notoriously, rendered to Egypt by the CIA to be tortured on behalf of the US government. www.andyworthington.co.uk/2009/05/10/ibn-al-shaykh-al-libi-has-died-in-a-libyan-prison/

Fallout of West’s military intervention in Libya: Mali plunges into chaos For some observers, Western powers' role in helping trigger crisis now gives them responsibility to help try to end it. First Published: 2012-04-05 When Western forces helped topple Libya's Moamer Gathafi they forced hundreds of well-armed Tuareg fighters to flee home to Mali, tipping another fragile African state into chaos, experts say. And for some observers, the Western powers' role in helping trigger the crisis now gives them a responsibility to help try to end it. "It must be said and said again that the factor that unleashed all of this is the Western intervention in Libya," said Eric Denece, director of the French Centre for Intelligence Research (CF2R), a think tank. www.middle-east-online.com/english/?id=51590Pandora box now opened : Chaos everywhere

MacKay looks to blame opposition for Libya controversy May 15, 2012 MacKay told two political talk shows he was "crystal clear" that when he told CBCRadio in late October that the cost of the mission was less than $50 million. In that same interview, MacKay told CBC Radio's The House "there could be more costs that come." MacKay said he was asked about the cost of the mission to that point - not about the $106million estimate of which the Canadian Forces now says MacKay would have been aware and reported to cabinet. As reported by Postmedia News on Thursday, figures buried in a Defence Department report tabled in the House of Commons on Tuesday put the full price of the Libya mission at nearly $350 million, including more than $100 million in "incremental costs." www.vancouversun.com/news/MacKay+looks+blame+opposition+Libya+controversy/6623235/story.html________________________ Libya victory ceremony cost soared to over $800,000: documents Published: Monday, March 12, 2012 The price tag for a ceremony on Parliament Hill to celebrate Canada's military mission in Libya was more than double the original agreed cost, prompting questions among some in uniform about whether approval was obtained for the increased spending, according to Defence Department documents obtained by the Ottawa Citizen. www2.canada.com/topics/news/story.html?id=6290359

Syria and Iran: the great game Regime change in Syria is a strategic prize that outstrips Libya – which is why Saudi Arabia and the west are playing their part Friday 4 November 2011 17.15 GMT This summer a senior Saudi official told John Hannah shadow.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2011/08/09/responding_to_syria_the_kings_statement_the_presidents_hesitation Dick Cheney's former chief of staff, that from the outset of the upheaval in Syria, the king has believed that regime change would be highly beneficial to Saudi interests: "The king knows that other than the collapse of the Islamic Republic itself, nothing would weaken Iran more than losing Syria." This is today's "great game" – losing Syria. And this is how it is played: set up a hurried transitional council as sole representative of the Syrian people, irrespective of whether it has any real legs inside Syria; feed in armed insurgents from neighbouring states; impose sanctions that will hurt the middle classes; mount a media campaign to denigrate any Syrian efforts at reform; try to instigate divisions within the army and the elite; and ultimately President Assad will fall – so its initiators insist. Europeans, Americans and certain Gulf states may see the Syria "game" as the logical successor to the supposedly successful Libya game in moulding the Arab awakening towards a western cultural paradigm. In terms of regional politics however, Syria is strategically more valuable, and Iran knows this. Iran has said that it will respond to any external intervention in Syria. www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/nov/04/syria-iran-great-game

Libya detains International Criminal Court lawyer over documents - June 09, 2012 The International Criminal Court demanded Saturday the immediate release of a lawyer and three other staff members who were detained while visiting the son of deposed Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi. Defense lawyer Melinda Taylor was detained in the city of Zintan after she was discovered carrying documents and letters Libyan authorities said jeopardizes Libyan national security, said Ahmed Gehani, a Libyan lawyer who serves as a liaison with the criminal court in The Hague, Netherlands. articles.cnn.com/2012-06-09/africa/world_africa_libya-court-staff-detained_1_zintan-libyan-authorities-libyan-lawyer?_s=PM:AFRICALockerbie bomber: Public figures demand inquiry into conviction - 22 May 2012 Last updated at 12:02 ET Religious leaders, politicians and journalists have signed a letter calling for an independent inquiry into the Lockerbie bomber's conviction. The plea comes two days after Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the only person convicted of blowing up Pan Am Flight 103, died of www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-18162464Megrahi and after 2 Scotland must now have the courage to look itself in the mirror An open letter from 42 signatories 22.05.12, No. 552 Abdelbaset al-Megrahi has now died without having been able to clear his name of the destruction of Pan Am flight 103 on the 21st of December 1988 during his lifetime. Now all those politicians and Megrahi-guilt apologists who regard compassion as being a weakling's alternative to vengeance, who boast of their skills at remote medical diagnosis, and who persistently refuse to address the uncomfortable facts of the case, will doubtless fall silent. Finally, the 'evil terrorist' has been called to account for himself before a 'higher power'. The prosecution case against him held water like a sieve. We are expected to believe the fantastic tale of the Luqa-Frankfurt-Heathrow transfer of an invisible, unaccompanied suitcase which miraculously found itself situated in the perfect position in the hold of 103 to create maximum destructive effect having eluded no fewer than three separate security regimes.
