Japan Tsunami Is First Tracked by Radar Wed, 17 Aug, 2011 The radar detection is the latest in the string of new ways the Japan earthquake and tsunami were observed. Satellite images found that the tsunami was so powerful that it broke off huge icebergs thousands of miles away in the Antarctic. Scientists also found that the earthquake rattled the planet's upper atmosphere. ca.news.yahoo.com/japan-tsunami-first-tracked-radar-200012508.html

Deputy Leader: Georges Laraque Green Party of Canada In January 2010, Georges decided to dedicate his life to serving his community and the city he grew up in. The devastating earthquake in Haiti was a life-changing experience for Georges. Georges became heavily involved in the humanitarian relief mission and the rebuilding of the Grace Children’s Hospital in Port-au-Prince. He is still actively involved in the World Vision project, Hockey for Haiti. greenparty.ca/party/georges-laraque

Ohio earthquake was not a natural event, expert says Reuters – Tue, Jan 3, 2012 CLEVELAND (Reuters) - A 4.0 magnitude earthquake in Ohio on New Year's Eve did not occur naturally and may have been caused by high-pressure liquid injection related to oil and gas exploration and production, an expert hired by the state of Ohio said on Tuesday. Ohio's Department of Natural Resources on Sunday suspended operations at five deep well sites in Youngstown, Ohio, where the injection of water was taking place, while they evaluate seismological data from a rare quake in the area. news.yahoo.com/ohio-earthquake-not-natural-event-expert-says-002703764.html

Human-made earthquakes reported in central U.S WASHINGTON | Tue Apr 17, 2012 4:50pm EDT (Reuters) - The number of earthquakes in the central United States rose "spectacularly" near where oil and gas drillers disposed of wastewater underground, a process that may have caused geologic faults to slip, U.S. government geologists report. The average number of earthquakes of magnitude 3 or greater in the U.S. midcontinent - an area that includes Arkansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas - increased to six times the 20th century average last year, scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey said in an abstract of their research. The abstract does not explicitly link rising earthquake activity to fracking - known formally as hydraulic fracturing - that involves pumping water and chemicals into underground rock formations to extract natural gas and oil. But the wastewater generated by fracking and other extraction processes may play a role in causing geologic faults to slip, causing earthquakes, the report suggests. more: www.reuters.com/article/2012/04/17/us-earthquakes-usa-idUSBRE83G1FL20120417

Japanese research vessel sets deep sea drilling record Published: Saturday, Apr. 28, 2012 - 1:00 am TOKYO -- A research vessel with the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology has set a record for the deepest undersea research drill, reaching a depth of 7,740 meters (4.8 miles) in waters off Miyagi Prefecture, the agency said. The Chikyu, a 56,700-ton deep-sea research vessel, broke the record of 7,049.5 meters set by a U.S. vessel in the Mariana Trench in 1978. The Chikyu was at anchor about 220 kilometers (136.7 miles) off Oshika Peninsula, Miyagi Prefecture, to research the focal regions on the seabed around the Japan Trench, which is believed to have generated huge tsunami on March 11 last year, the date of the massive 9.0 magnitude Great East Japan Earthquake. www.sacbee.com/2012/04/28/4450252/japanese-research-vessel-sets.html

Secret documents show Canadian interference in Haiti - April 15, 2011
According to internal documents examined by the Canadian Press this month, Canadian officials feared a post-earthquake power vacuum could lead to a "popular uprising". Obtained through access-to-information legislation, one briefing note marked "Secret" explains, "Political fragility has increased the risks of a popular uprising, and has fed the rumour that ex-president Jean-Bertrand Aristide, currently in exile in South Africa, wants to organize a return to power." The documents also explain the importance of strengthening the Haitian authorities ability "to contain the risks of a popular uprising."
To police Haiti's traumatized and suffering population 2,000 Canadian troops were deployed (alongside 10,000 American soldiers). At the same time several Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Teams in cities across the country were readied but never sent because, Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon noted, "the government had opted to send Canadian Armed Forces instead." In Haiti, concern over gold rush - July 31, 2012 - 10:28 video: Gold-rich Haiti eyed by foreign investorsIt turns out that over the past year dozens of foreigners - mostly Canadians and Americans had been poking around the same area trying to convince Haitians to allow them to drill on their land to take samples. According to an investigative report by Haitian Grassroots Watch - a Haitian organisation which works with journalism students from the University of Haiti - foreign mining companies have already invested more than $30 million dollars collecting samples, building roads and digging. Nearly 15 per cent of Haiti’s territory is now under license to North American mining firms and their partners. Keeping those potential profits in the country, however, will be a challenge - Haiti has one of the lowest royalty rates in the western hemisphere — only 2.5 percent of the value of each ounce of gold extracted. blogs.aljazeera.com/blog/americas/haiti-concern-over-gold-rush$20b.

Mass grave in London reveals how volcano caused global catastrophe - Sunday 5 August 2012 Scientists search for the explosive source of a disaster that wiped out almost a third of Londoners in 1258 When archaeologists discovered thousands of medieval skeletons in a mass burial pit in east London in the 1990s, they assumed they were 14th-century victims of the Black Death or the Great Famine of 1315-17. Now they have been astonished by a more explosive explanation – a cataclysmic volcano that had erupted a century earlier, thousands of miles away in the tropics, and wrought havoc on medieval Britons. www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/aug/05/medieval-volcano-disaster-london-graves
