Inside report from Fukushima nuclear reactor evacuation zone www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp9iJ3pPuL8Fukushima, Japan - The Japanese government has issued the evacuation order on March 12 for the residents living within the 20 kilometer radius of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Since then, residents have left their homes, and the "no man land" has been out of touch with the rest of the world. A Japanese journalist, Tetsuo Jimbo, ventured through the evacuation zone last Sunday, and filed the following video report. He says that, inside the evacuation zone, homes, building, roads and bridges, which were torn down by Tsunami, are left completely untouched, and the herd of cattle and pet dogs, left behind by the owners, wonders around the town while the radiation level remains far beyond legal limits.

New Fukushima radioactive fallout (to melt polar ice caps) ought to speed this up.

Earthquakes Rattle Pacific Ring Of Fire Nations Sat Apr 16, 12:50 pm At least five countries located on the Pacific Ring of Fire have experienced earthquakes greater than a magnitude of 5 over the past 24 hours. A 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit north-eastern Australia on Saturday afternoon. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake took place at 3.30pm local time (0530 GMT) about 124 kilometres southeast of Townsville, Queensland. The quake was measured at a depth of 10 kilometres. Queensland was hit by another 5.4 magnitude quake on 16 March last. Meanwhile, Christchurch in New Zealand has been hit by more aftershocks this afternoon, leaving several parts of the city without power. The strongest of the tremors measured 5.2 on the Richter Scale. The country’s second largest city was hit by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in February. 181 people were killed. Elsewhere, Japan was rattled by a 5.9 magnitude aftershock on Saturday afternoon but there were no initial reports of damage and no risk of a tsunami. www.irishweatheronline.com/news/earthquakes-rattle-pacific-ring-of-fire-nations/11949.htmlRare quake rocks Australia's Barrier Reef coast (AFP) – 8 hours ago www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5i9bTore0bN8B_jDOWWBZMTsaR48A?docId=CNG.24e3626329a6b1ddb097765004f72c76.131

Experts: “Fukushima is going to kill 200,000 from increased cancers” — “It’s worse than Chernobyl” April 15th, 2011 at 04:15 PM Interview with Arnold Gundersen; 39-year veteran of the nuclear industry, has worked as a nuclear plant operator and served as an expert witness on the Three Mile Island accident. Is this accident as bad as Chernobyl? It’s worse than Chernobyl. … So if it’s worse than Chernobyl, is this the worst industrial accident ever? I think this and the Bhopal accident in India [where hundreds of thousands of people were exposed to the toxic gas methyl isocyanate, killing thousands] are going to be neck and neck for that category. So it’s worse than Chernobyl… I absolutely disagree with the scientists who say that Fukushima’s not going to hurt anyone. The numbers I’ve seen, from reputable scientists, are that Fukushima is going to kill 200,000 from increased cancers over the next 50 years. … enenews.com/experts-fukushima-going-kill-200000-increased-cancers-worse-chernobyl

Secret documents show Canadian interference in Haiti April 15, 2011 According to internal documents examined by the Canadian Press this month, Canadian officials feared a post-earthquake power vacuum could lead to a "popular uprising". Obtained through access-to-information legislation, one briefing note marked "Secret" explains, "Political fragility has increased the risks of a popular uprising, and has fed the rumour that ex-president Jean-Bertrand Aristide, currently in exile in South Africa, wants to organize a return to power." The documents also explain the importance of strengthening the Haitian authorities ability "to contain the risks of a popular uprising." To police Haiti's traumatized and suffering population 2,000 Canadian troops were deployed (alongside 10,000 American soldiers). At the same time several Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Teams in cities across the country were readied but never sent because, Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon noted, "the government had opted to send Canadian Armed Forces instead."The files uncovered by the Canadian Press go to the heart (or lack thereof) of Canadian foreign-policy decision-making. Almost always strategic thinking, not compassion, motivates policy. One is hard-pressed to find an instance where compassion was more warranted than post-earthquake Haiti. www.rabble.ca/news/2011/04/secret-documents-show-canadian-interference-haiti

Radiation Readings in Fukushima Reactor Rise to Highest Since Crisis Began Apr 27, 2011 3:14 AM MT Radiation readings at Japan’s Fukushima Dai-Ichi station rose to the highest since an earthquake and tsunami knocked out cooling systems, impeding efforts to contain the worst nuclear crisis since Chernobyl. Two robots sent into the reactor No. 1 building at the plant yesterday took readings as high as 1,120 millisierverts of radiation per hour, Junichi Matsumoto, a general manager at Tokyo Electric Power Co., said today. That’s more than four times the annual dose permitted to nuclear workers at the stricken plant. Radiation from the station, where four of six reactors have been damaged by explosions, has forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people and contaminated farmland and drinking water. A plan to flood the containment vessel of reactor No. 1 with more water to speed up emergency cooling efforts announced yesterday by the utility known as Tepco may not be possible now. www.pyrelog.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=politics&action=post&thread=488&page=3

UK shale gas drilling suspended after earthquakes June 1, 2011, 4:46AM ET A mining company has halted drilling for shale gas off the British coast after scientists said small earthquakes in the area might be linked to the controversial process, known as "fracking." The British Geological Survey recorded a 1.5 magnitude quake Friday near Blackpool in northwest England, 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) from the gas exploration. A 2.3 magnitude quake was recorded last month. www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D9NIVOPO2.htm

They didn’t know what they were doing. They were creating more chaos rather than diminishing it. It was a comedy, if it weren’t so tragic.... They had no business being there.” The journalists finally managed to get into the hospital and alerted the hospital’s interim director, Dr. Evan Lyon, about the problem. He immediately sent word down that the soldiers should stand down and open the gate. They did, but then positioned themselves in the driveway, among the injured hobbling into the hospital, as an unnecessary and unrequested security force, contrary to what Mills had promised Préval. www.thenation.com/article/161459/wikileaks-haiti-earthquake-cablesUnderreported: What the WikiLeaks Cables Reveal about Haiti Thursday, June 16, 2011. www.wnyc.org/shows/lopate/2011/jun/16/underreported-what-wikileaks-cables-reveal-about-haiti/

AshBritt, Inc. was also anxious to get in on the “gold rush.” A US corporation with close ties to the Republican party, Ashbritt had already been accused by Broward County, Florida, of double-billing it more than $700,000 after Hurricane Wilma in 1999, and had earned a reputation for profiteering after Hurricane Katrina. www.wsws.org/articles/2011/jun2011/hait-j24.shtml

Weekend Edition. July 1 - 3, 2011 Haiti: the Next Round On March 18th, President Jean-Bertrand Aristide and his family returned home from a 7-year forced exile in South Africa – an exile brought about by the violent U.S.-orchestrated coup in 2004. Up until the last minute, the U.S. government tried to stop the return, with President Obama going so far as to place a last-minute call to President Zuma of South Africa... As if to rub salt into the wounds, there is the new president, Michel Martelly. A kompa singer and long-time proponent of Jean-Claude Duvalier, Martelly worked with the dreaded FRAPH death squads that killed over 5000 people in Haiti after the first coup against Aristide in 1991. He has made the reestablishment of Haiti’s hated military a priority of his administration. In the past, he has called for a ban on "all strikes and demonstrations." In a revolting video released right before the election, Martelly called Lavalas members "faggots" and threatened sexual violence against Aristide. Some of his chief aides had warned that "the country would burn" if he were not selected. www.counterpunch.org/roth07012011.html
