Monsanto Whistleblower Says Genetically Engineered Crops May Cause Disease November 19, 2006... It turns out that the damage done to DNA due to the process of creating a genetically modified organism is far more extensive than previously thought.[1] GM crops routinely create unintended proteins, alter existing protein levels or even change the components and shape of the protein that is created by the inserted gene. Kirk’s concerns about a GM crop producing a harmful misfolded protein remain well-founded, and have been echoed by scientists as one of the many possible dangers that are not being evaluated by the biotech industry’s superficial safety assessments. GM cotton has provided ample reports of unpredicted side-effects. In April 2006, more than 70 Indian shepherds reported that 25% of their herds died within 5-7 days of continuous grazing on Bt cotton plants.[2] Hundreds of Indian agricultural laborers reported allergic reactions from Bt cotton. Some cotton harvesters have been hospitalized and many laborers in cotton gin factories take antihistamines each day before work.[3] The cotton’s agronomic performance is also erratic. When Monsanto’s GM cotton varieties were first introduced in the US, tens of thousands of acres suffered deformed roots and other unexpected problems. Monsanto paid out millions in settlements.[4] www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?aid=3912&context=va

Genetically Modified Foods: Friend or Foe? November 19, 2010 Scottish doctor Árpád Pusztai conducted a study on the effects of genetically modified foods in 1998. During a ten day period, he fed genetically engineered potatoes to one group of rats, natural potatoes to another group, and finally a third group was fed potatoes that were laced with insecticide. After the ten days he discovered that the rats who ate the genetically engineered potatoes were very sick. They had precancerous cells in their digestive organs, noticeably smaller brains, livers and testicles, and damage to their immune system. The other two groups were declared perfectly healthy and fine. With the approval from his director, he made his discoveries public. Strangely, a mere two days later and two phone calls from the British Prime Minister’s office, he was fired from his job of 35 years, threatened with a lawsuit and his whole team of research scientists were disbanded. Even if Dr. Pusztai’s studies were shunned, many people have begun to wonder if there are dangers in GMO food that the government does not want the people to know about. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that they had no potentially dangerous information about GMOs to conduct safety testing. The one and only human feeding study with GMO food told a different story. It was presented that after eating genetically engineered soy products, people may still have the soy GMO gene being produced inside of their intestines, potentially for the rest of their life. Does that sound very safe? www.pointernews.com/opinion/2010/11/19/genetically-modified-foods-friend-or-foe/
