Two refineries owned by oil giant BP account for 97 percent of all flagrant violations found in the refining industry by government safety inspectors over the past three years, a Center for Public Integrity analysis shows. Most of BP’s citations were classified as “egregious willful” by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and reflect alleged violations of a rule designed to prevent catastrophic events at refineries. Why is the U.S. Government Protecting BP? 20 August 2010 Monday, five Georgia scientists who reviewed government data said that instead of only 26 percent of the oil remaining in the Gulf, as a federal report said earlier this month, it’s actually closer to 80 percent. “Where has all the oil gone? It hasn’t gone anywhere. It still lurks in the deep,” said University of Georgiamarine scientist Chuck Hopkinson. He headed the quick independent look by the Georgia Sea Grant program at the estimates the White House released.” Hopkins also said, “The Georgia team said it is a misinterpretation of data to claim that oil that is dissolved or dispersed is gone. The bottom line is most of it is still out there, There’s nothing in the report to substantiate the 26 percent.” usawatchdog.com/why-is-the-u-s-government-protecting-bp/

Obama gets hammered by GOP foe Jindal over BP oil spill Nov 12, 2010 Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal -- often mentioned as a potential Republican candidate for president or vice president -- takes some shots at the current occupant of the White House in a new book. Jindal claims that "political posturing" became the focus of President Obama and his team during the response to the Gulf Coast oil spill. As Jindal describes it, the letter was entirely routine, yet Obama was angry and concerned about looking bad.
"Careful," he quotes the president as warning him, "this is going to get bad for everyone."content.usatoday.com/communities/theoval/post/2010/11/obama-gets-hammered-by-gop-foe-jindal-over-bp-oil-spill/1

WikiLeaks Reveals BP's 'Other' Offshore Drilling Disaster Sun Dec 19, 1:30 am ET "It is possible that BP Azerbaijan 'would never know' the cause of the gas leak," Ambassador Derse wrote to her bosses in Washington on Oct. 8, 2008, citing confidential talks with the American head of BP Azerbaijan, Bill Schrader. "BP is continuing to methodically investigate possible theories." A later cable says BP concluded that "a bad cement job" caused the leak. BP has not said which company was responsible for that cement work, and its 2008 annual report offered few details. The leak is mentioned on page 28 of the report, where it is stated only that production had resumed "following comprehensive investigation and recovery work." news.yahoo.com/s/time/20101219/wl_time/08599203783000
